Places: Come & Go

Places: Come & Go

I have been traveling from Pittsburgh to Hatteras Island since I was a toddler. My parents were teachers and our summers were spent at Pea Island Resort (now Camp Hatteras).
Highway 12 is the road I travelled during the summer job years at Down Under by the Rodanthe Pier, Bluewater Grill in Waves and old Surf or Sound office located where Ocean Gourmet is now and Exotic Cargo locations. Then, as my college internship I created a summer program for Stewart Couch at Hatteras Realty. Followed by the years of showing prospective buyers their dream homes on Hatteras Island that had me driving north and south on my favorite highway.
I drove to Hatteras Island many times by myself as a college student and hope my teenage son will feel comfortable driving the distance. Before Google Maps, my mom made turn by turn large print directions for me and I always remember. South and East. South and East. South and East.
The Pittsburgh to NC directions I still follow take you through Paris and end with, Follow 168 South all the way to Highway 12 and the beach of your choice.
If you’re coming from the western part of NC the last direction would be, Follow 64 East all the way to Highway 12 and the beach of your choice.
Highway 12 leads us to our favorite place by the sound & sea. Highway 12 gives us miles of memories of days well spent. Highway 12 Shirts has your next favorite shirt, sweatshirt, or sticker. perfect gift for those who drove 64 East, 168 South or took a ferry to follow Highway 12 to the beach of their choice.
Where is your “beach of choice” along Highway 12?
